![]() ![]() ![]() Parks & Recreation made up for all the abuse Jerry went through by giving him a perfect family and a job he was actually good at, and for which Pawnee will always remember him. Though Jerry never excelled at his job in the Parks Department and the National Park Service Midwest Region, he seems to have found his calling when he became mayor – and he surely did a good job, as he was re-elected multiple times. However, Jerry couldn’t catch a break even when dead, and his last name was misspelled on his tombstone. Jerry won Pawnee’s citizens over and lived a happy life after that (not that he wasn’t prior to becoming mayor), and died peacefully on his 100th birthday. Parks and Recreation followed a group of goofballs who just wanted to try to make the little town of Pawnee, Indiana a little nicer. It gets better after season 1 should be the official tagline of the show. What Jerry nor anyone else was expecting was for him to become mayor and be elected for several terms, as revealed in a series of flashforwards in Parks & Recreation’s series finale. It very famously does, to the extent that if you made a post saying 'name a show that got way better after the first season' the top answer would probably be Parks and Recreation. Following the death of Mayor Gunderson (Bill Murray) in season 7, Jerry was appointed Interim Mayor as he fitted the criteria for it.
